A family room makes a house feel like home
At the end of the day, we go to the family room to kick back and relax while watching our favorite TV show or sports game. It’s the room where we spend a night with our loved ones—watching movies, playing games, planning the family vacation, and catching up with one another. Without the family room, a house just wouldn’t feel like home. If your family room has seen better days and you’re ready for a facelift, here are some changes to consider.
What sort of flooring should you choose? Many homeowners love the timeless look of a stained hardwood floor, and some prefer the comfort of soft carpeting. If you have young children or toddlers, the cushion and softness of a carpet may be to your liking. If you host parties where drinks and food make their way into your living room, you might want to go with a hardwood or laminate surface for easy cleanup after accidental spills. If you have any pets, you may want to consider how they might affect your flooring choice as well. Or if you’re adventurous and looking to add a modern twist, you might consider cement floors or large porcelain tile.
Maybe you’ve always wanted built-in shelving units or an entertainment center. These are wonderful if you have a collection of movies, books, family photos, art pieces, and other decorative accents to find a place for, and they add a lot of interest to your family room. If you are big into reading, we could create a unique shelving unit with an incorporated window seat or a corner unit with room for your most comfortable reading chair.
To add some character to the family room, you might consider adding or refacing overhead beams and coffering. Or you might want to line the perimeter of the ceiling with crown molding. You can also add wainscoting to accent your beautiful wood floors and create a more traditional look. If you’ve always wanted a reclaimed barn wood coffee table or end tables, we can build them for you. Some of our clients have incorporated a wine bar into their family room, complete with an under-counter wine cooler and bar sink.
If you have windows that leak or give you trouble while trying to open or close them, it might be time to replace them with more energy-efficient units. We will gladly include any window and door replacements into your remodel. We can also have wall-mount hardware installed for your television along with an in-wall surround sound system.
Aside from remodeling the whole family room (or other rooms), we also remodel fireplaces. If your family room has a fireplace, it may be time to give it a facelift. We can install a new fireplace door set with your remodel if you’re ready to get rid of that old brass door set you currently have. We can also update your gas log set. We can design a new surround with ledge stone, field stone, cultured stone, brick, wood, tile, glass, metal, granite, etc. Whether you’re looking for a more classical style with ornate corbels and a mantle, or a rustic look with a field stone facade, a barn wood mantle, and a limestone hearth, we can design a fireplace that will accent your room’s design theme.
